SERCE

Digital audio system on a module
HEM proudly introduces

SERCE

HEM proudly introduces SERCE. The name SERCE (pronounced sɛrt͡sɛ) is Polish for heart. With SERCE you can focus on designing your product with everything digital already in place, programmed into one single chip. SERCE is a compact module with a complete, advanced digital system built right into it. It offers a complete solution for quality audio playback from a digital input to any DAC chip.
  • Optimised for audioAll digital inputs are optimised for audio, including USB, I2S and IEC 60958 (S/PDIF, AES3)
  • Made for ARMAll digital signals are optimised to work with the ARM Cortex M7 Core processor, including DSD and MQA
  • Digital done wellOver twenty years’ worth of experience in digital audio found its way into SERCE
  • One for all compact form factorSERCE brings high end quality to a wide range of audio equipment. Full functionality on just 50 mm x 60 mm PCB real estate
SERCE

PERFECT UNISON

SERCE offers a set of audio-optimised digital inputs that work in unison with a custom programmed ARM Cortex processor. The module measures 50 mm x 60 mm with all signals connected to board-to-board connectors. It supports PCM, DSD (including DoP decoding), MQA* (optimized for ARM processor) with full decoder and renderer capability, USB HID, and signal level calculation. SERCE features USB Audio Class 2.0 input, up to three IEC 60958 (S/PDIF, AES3) inputs, two I2S inputs (one LVDS and one non-differential), ARC input with CEC controlling, one IEC 60958 (S/PDIF, AES3) output, I2S output (e.g. for DAC), IR receiver decoder, encoder and touch panel support, LCD-TFT display controller (LTDC), plenty general purpose inputs and outputs to connect e.g. LEDs or switches. The ARM Cortex-M7 processor is used for audio processing, USB communication including DFU secure updater and custom USB HID port and other applications. The customer can create own application with access to I2C, SPI, UART, GPIOs and other peripherals. The system is highly configurable including formats, inputs, USB identifiers and names, MQA mode and renderer blobs. We are actively developing new software features, so feel free to inform us about your specific applications.

Supported formats on inputs and outputs:

  • USB/I2S: PCM up to 32-bit / 768 kHz, DSD up to x512 (44.1 kHz and 48 kHz), DoP up to x256, MQA*
  • other: PCM up to 24-bit / 192 kHz, DoP x64, MQA*

*MQA support needs additional licensing.

EVALUATION BOARD

MAKE IT SIMPLE

You can implement SERCE directly into the PCB designed by you, but with our evaluation board you can test SERCE’s functionality prior to it. Or even better, you can implement whole EVB into your device, and just add power supply, user interface, and/or DAC and preamp circuits, and more.
SERCE-EVB already contains inputs like USB (Type-C, to use with devices running Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or iOS), ARC+CEC (to use with TVs), I2S (one differential LVDS and one non-differential LVTTL), optical S/PDIF (TOSLINK), coaxial S/PDIF (RCA), AES3 (XLR) and outputs like I2S (non-differential LVTTL, via pinheaders or dedicated FFC connector) and coaxial S/PDIF (RCA). Also plenty general purpose inputs and outputs via pinheaders, including I2C/SPI/UART, lines to connect TFT-LCD touchscreen, decoder for IR remote receiver, rotary encoder and so on.
SERCE is not only a hardware, it’s also a software made by us. We can modify firmware for you, or we can provide you necessary libraries, so you can customize it by yourself. We also provide a tool to let end users to easy update SERCE’s firmware over the Internet.
